Donald Trump finally gets his wall…on a golf course in Ireland

President Donald Trump finally won approval for a wall he has loudly wanted for more than a year. Only it won’t be built along the U.S. – Mexico border.

The Trump Organization was approved to build not one, but two massive sea walls to protect his Trump International Golf Links Doonbeg golf course in Ireland from coastal erosion.

Irish officials will accept appeals to the project for the next month, and local media report several environmental groups plan to oppose the walls. Environmentalists argue the wall will damage protected wildlife in the area.

Eamon Ryan, leader of Ireland’s Green Party, was disappointed by the approval, saying the wall “will interfere with the natural circulation of the dune system. Local jobs would be better protected by adjusting the course to the evolving natural world.”

The irony here is rich. Trump’s golf course officials argued that the effects of rising sea levels, a product of global warming, would increase coastal erosion rates along the golf course. Trump is open climate change denier. In 2012 he tweeted that climate change was made up by the Chinese. Earlier this year, he withdrew America from the Paris climate agreement.

“In our view, it could reasonably be expected that the rate of sea level rise might become twice of that presently occurring,” a statement from golf course officials said. “As a result, we would expect the rate of dune recession to increase.”

This is a complete and utter smh.
